Our team at Safari Quads has been relentless in selecting the best full day route (6-7 hours) for our guests allowing us to take you even further into our natural playground. This trip comes in response to our guest’s enthusiasm for longer trips that travel a greater distance reaching outside of the expected tourism territory but limited to one day. The Volcano & Lava Experience Tour is a perfect and unique opportunity to see as much raw nature as possible.
FAR FROM CIVILIZATION, FEEL AND SEE THE POWER OF THE VOLCANIC ISLAND
The tour starts with an adventurous ride in the backlands of Reykjavik all the way to Hengill mountain range and Hellisheiðarvirkjun, the biggest geothermal power plant in Iceland. You follow the trail to a place called “Þúsund vatna leiðir” – “The valley of one thousand rivers”. As the name says, a lot of splashing and fun are waiting for you. On the way to your lunch break, there is one more stop at an old Skiresort which has a volcanic hot spring waiting for you. This place is approved by Ben Stiller since it was one of many filming locations for his movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”. After your Lunchbreak in a cozy little restaurant, you will head to the iconic blue mountains. The trail leads you through dirt tracks and old trails surrounded by huge mountains and inactive volcanoes. On the way to the next stop, you will drive through another huge lava field next to some pipelines which might be familiar to you if you watched “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”. The reward for this final stage of your ride will be the breathtaking view of Þingvallavatn, the biggest lake in Iceland. The valley you are looking down from also hosts the second biggest geothermal power plant in Iceland, Nesjavellarvirkjun.
